It is with profound sadness that Canadian Parents for French Manitoba, alongside its Board of Directors and the CPF National Network, mourns the loss of the Honourable Nello Altomare, an educator, compassionate leader, and steadfast advocate for bilingualism and education in Manitoba.

Minister Altomare was described by his colleagues and those who worked alongside him as a gentle soul whose kindness and unwavering commitment to students left a profound and lasting impact. A former teacher and firm believer in lifelong learning, he devoted his career to enriching the lives of children, youth, and families across the province. His vision for education extended beyond the classroom.

He believed that learning was a journey, not a destination—a philosophy that guided his work in championing initiatives such as the universal school food program, which provided critical support to students and their families. This program exemplified his dedication to fostering environments where students could thrive, with access to resources that supported their overall well-being and development.

Minister Altomare believed that education was the key to unlocking potential, creating opportunities, and connecting communities. His love for teaching and learning inspired those around him, and his advocacy for bilingualism as a bridge between cultures resonated deeply with our mission at Canadian Parents for French.

As our Executive Director, Joel Martine, expressed: “Minister Altomare embodied the spirit of an educator—encouraging, compassionate, and unwavering in his belief that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed. His legacy will continue to inspire us in our work to promote French language education and build a brighter future for generations to come.”

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, and all who were fortunate enough to learn from his wisdom and warmth. We will continue to honor his vision by championing the causes he held dear, ensuring that his legacy lives on in the generations of students who will benefit from his tireless advocacy.

With deepest sympathy,
Canadian Parents for French Manitoba
